Gaming

This section of Star Base Anime is dedicated to my love for gaming.

The Midi playing is from the PC game Lands of Lore 2: Guardians of Destiny

Last Update: 04/30/05

Currently playing: Divine Divinity (PC)

April 29, 2005

Divine Divinity - Holy crap it's been a long time! I've had some computer trouble of late.  My games just don't install.  My system just crashes during the install. (On more than one game) I've tried everything.  Even a new CD-ROM...  I have no clue and Microsoft is clueless as well.  So anyhow... Let's talk about Divine Divinity; Can you say ANNOYING!!!.  But I'm a RPG fanatic and I'm addicted. I need my fix.  Endless dungeon crawls and far too few skill points to spread out.  Ah, well...at least I get to mow down countless orcs and get some man lovin'. Oh, yeah...my boy went to the brothel in Verdistis and I picked the man-whore! LOL! 'Turn out the lights...' he said! I'm still playing this one.  I must find the 7 council members.....ugh.

Beyond Good and Evil

Beyond Good and Evil -  A few months ago I finished playing Beyond good and Evil!  Wow!! This game was everything and more.  Great music, new and interesting game play and the story was great. I couldn't get enough of the 'James Bond' adventure of exposing the bad guys with my trust camera and bad ass martial arts skills.  I liked the personality of the game. Needless to say I really want more.  By the way folks.... If you thought that song playing at the Akuna bar was awesome. I have it  in a very crisp MP3 format. Give me a holla' if you want a copy.

I've attempted to play/played these games since my last update: Gothic 2, Alon D'ar ( PS2), Soul Reaver 2 (PS2). I honestly think Kain and Raziel have a thing for each other.  I mean, like...get a room would ya!

March 23, 2004 - Legacy of Kain: Defiance

I've been real behind on my updates.  Nonetheless I'll fill you in on my gaming adventures.

Enclave totally crashed just about every time I leveled up or changed scenes.  It was so frustrating! So I uninstalled and moved to Lion HeartThe game was so uninteresting I don't have much to say other than: BLARGH! Sooo I moved on to Might and Magic 9.  Initially I enjoyed myself.  Cute music and familiar dungeons/quests.  The level up system was very confusing! The game froze up occasionally, but it was no big deal.  ...At first. To make a long story short I looked in to things and found out the game had been rushed and 3DO had gone out of business and MM9 was somehow their last attempt to save the company.  I figured the ending would be crap.  So I uninstalled and moved on yet again! Arx Fatalis was an interesting game.  I baked a lot of pie. I was Emeril the Conquer - 'Eat my pie and die villain!'  The game had you do a lot of cooking for being the Guardian savior and all that! Mmmm, pie.  Finished the game with a rather uneventful boss fight.

Me: Take that! *poke-poke*

Boss: Aaaah! *dies*

Next!

I began to play Legacy of Kain: Defiance.  Well 'defiance' is the key word cause the game keeps crashing a specific point and I'm having trouble determining if I need to upgrade my sound and video card drivers.  Again! >_< I hope I can get it to work. I'm so honored to play Kain! *giggle-swoon* I hear he likes romantic walks under the moon!

November 04, 2003 - Enclave

This is game started out great.  It was a new concept for me - the unlocking of different races/classes.  Being able to repeat past missions to earn more gold.  Graphics were good and the game play intrigued me.  Too bad the damn game KEEPS CRASHING!! After contacting Technical Support and following there instructions the game STILL crashes after a few minutes.  I have the game Lion Heart waiting in the ranks, but Enclave's simplicity is something I wanted right now. *grumble* Damn it!

September 24, 2003 - Wizardry 8/ Arcanum

Well!! Look who's been neglecting her web site!!  I recently played and completed Wizardry 8 and I found the ending to be quite intriguing. Right now I'm waiting for the next Neverwinter expansion and Dungeon Siege 2.  So I'm stuck playing the infamous Arcanum.  I want to beat it out of spite!

February 17, 2003 - Neverwinter Nights

It's official.  I've fallen in love with Tomi Undergallows.  We're getting married next month.  LOL! Okay, so the little man rubbed me the right way. I don't think I've had this much fun with a NPC before.  Granted sometimes I do wish there were more folks to talk to in my party.  But sometimes Tomi makes up for it.  Visualize this:

My character: Nehra Shrivastava - Dashing elf ranger with deep crimson tresses framing his handsome face. *think sexy* Gifted Cleric and kick ass melee fighter.  Composed and focused to save Neverwinter.  Hiding quietly upon a rooftop, casting spells of protection in preparation to slay numerous frost giants. I turn to my companion.  A spry, lil'halfling chap with an infectious grin and a crop of fiery red hair atop his mischievous little head.

'Tomi, stay close, don't attack we're gonna sneak past the frost giants.'

The moment I turn away...Tomi shrieks 'Woooo-hooo!' and runs down to the street to assault the massive frost giants alone!!  I don't know whether to shriek in horror or to laugh!  'Tomi, damn it I said sneak past the giants!! Arrrrg!'  And so I have to run down and help keep the little prat alive!

*smile*  You're a trip Tomi Undergallows. I think it all started when he sat in my lap. o.0  Yup, don't know how but I pressed the 'rest' button and Tomi was in my lap.  Coincidence, yes, but highly amusing!

January 6, 2003 - Neverwinter Nights

Whew! I took a while to get back to updating. Okay... I got close to beating Morrowind, but my computer kept crashing due to lack of memory to play this huge ass game.  I wanted to get Tribunal, but alas... need more memory. So what did I do?!!  NEVERWINTER NIGHTS!!  HERE I COME!

Oh, yes.  I traded in some games and quickly scooped up my copy.  *hugs*  I'm playing as Nehra.  A well behaved Nehra mind you.  However, I did go the brothel.  But you actually have to convince the chicks to sleep with you!!  As if!  Isn't my character hot enough?  Anyhow - I am enjoying Neverwinter far more than Morrowind. I have to say that Morrowind is sure lacking in colors.  In comparison  to Neverwinter things seemed dull in Morrowind.  My biggest disappointment with Neverwinter is that I can only have one party member.  Even if the game took away some of my control over the party - I would have preferred more people to interact with!  *shakes head sadly*  Like we [the gamers] had grown tired of it or something!  I miss the silly conversations that I'd have with my party.  [Example:  'Imoen asking Minsc for a 'space hamster' <~~~ That was awesome.  Baldur's Gate fans will know what I mean.]

My resent hobbit obsession has worked wonders since the one party member I have decided to follow me in to hell and back is....  Tomi!!!!! *hugs little halfling until he shrieks*  He's like a Peregrin Took on crack.  His battle cry? 'I love this part!'  or 'Woo-hoo!'

The expansion comes out in March!  Woo-hoo!!

November 3 2002 - Morrowind

Almost finished.  Just trying to level up to kill the Big Boss, Dagoth Dork...I mean, Dagoth Ur.  I'm 3 points away from level 20.  I've attempted to start a new game, but going back to such a weak state is infuriating.  Well, if I want to experience the game differently I'm gonna have to endure.  I still want a horse though. U_U

October 18 2002 - Morrowind

Yup, still playing.  I had some interesting troubles with the software. I realized I need more memory.  Re-installed a couple different times.  I also found out the trainer doesn't work with the patch! I'm having loads of fun with the exception of the prolonged travel on foot.  For being a kick ass fighter with way to much gold for his out good, my character, a Khajit -Archer named Nehra, level 18 with a 32 reputation and a slew of skills at 100 - I can't ride a horse!!! Sure I can take a boat, silt rider or teleport.  But that only goes so far.  Ah, well.  It's a matter of weeks before the expansion pack.  My kingdom for a horse!!

September 4 2002  -  Morrowind!

Still don't have my own copy of Neverwinter Nights sooo...  Tally Ho! Morrowind!  However when I purchased Morrowind I was nervous. I'd played Daggerfall ages ago and never got past the second dungeon.  The new look of the Elder Scrolls world is awesome!! I love being able to see my character running out in front. The controls were a little awkward at first but I got used to it.  The music is BEAUTIFUL! I have to travel a lot on foot, but I found many of the quests to be very attainable.  I'm happy to say that this is the kinda game I will gladly sit through all the tedious quests just to see what happens.  So many variables!!

So!  I'm playing a Khajiit!  Here, kitty kitty!  I picked Archer...but I lack the finesse to handle the bow in this game.  I think I shall start over and pick another class.  Like fighter...or something.  The strategy guide has been wrong once already.  Tsk tsk!  You'd think they'd get their cities right.  This game makes it quite interesting to be evil.  Wish there were horses to ride.  I mean I like the idea of just exploring the country side on horse back rather than walking or taking the land strider - bugs.  I mean, on the road you can find tombs and mine entrances before you have to search for them during a quest.  'Oh, I have to go there...I passed it on the way to Vivec.'  That's it for now.  Since I'm starting over I'll have to get back to you when  I'm level 4 again!

July 10 2002 -  Neverwinter Nights, Might and Magic 9

I started Neverwinter Nights, but it was on loan from a friend and he kinda wanted it back.  Heh... ^_^  I really like being able to customize your walking avatar!  And the new portraits!! Wooo!! The interaction with people is amazing.  And I like the extensive selection of voices!  Might and Magic two started out great. Alas I HATE the new controls.  I've never liked fighting with a mouse. And I nearly got myself killed just fighting those dragon flies out side the first village.  ::sigh::  Why the funky mouse controlled fighting?!  It's a complete turn off!

April thru May 2002 -  Vampire the Masquerade and  Dungeon Siege

The Masquerade was a change of pace but the graphics were lacking.  Plus the hero was voiced by the dude who does 'Brain' of Pinky and the Brain.  Er...I could NOT take him seriously!  I enjoyed going around sucking mortal blood and using my other skills as a vampire.  The ending left he hanging.  ::shrugs::  It was...okay.

Dungeon Siege had be on the edge of my seat for...about 1 hour.  After that the constant battling, lack of interaction with other NPCs and painfully linear plot BORED the hell out of me!  I loved the music and the graphics were super tight.  I just wanted to TALK to someone!!  I had a colorful mix of characters on my side,  but they never spoke until you kicked them out out of the party.  I was TRULY disappointed with the magic in the game.  I wanted sparks to fly!!  Rippling force fields and devastating long range spells.  Nope, didn't happen in this game.  If this was an attempt from Microsoft to best the gaming legacy of Baldur's Gate - 'Sorry, wrong answer...Thank you for playing.'

March 30 2002 - The ending was...hm...all right.  I totally dig the arch angel.  Those wings!!  For all the rave reviews Diablo received it fell short of my approval.  Baldur's Gate ALL THE WAY!!  ^_^

March 2 2002 - Diablo 2 Aaaah! I messed up.  I got killed while equipped with the staff of Tal Rasha...and it disappeared!  What the...?!  I went back to claim my items and it wasn't there! Whats the deal?!  I have to start all over again!  Stupid, stupid, stupid!

February 26 2002 - I broke down and got the game!  I didn't want to risk going back in pixels so I purchased the sequel.  I'm pleased so far, however compared to Baldur's Gate - I miss the all out brawls with my 'companions'.  It appears you can only have one buddy with you when you go out questing.  I'm familiar with the pace of running about looking for items and killing scores of monsters.  I'm playing a Paladin, which is proving to be helpful since the 'undead' are major players in my frequent battles.

February 1 2002 - Totally gave up on Pool of Radiance.  Total boredom! I'm now turning my attention back to Persona 2 which I have neglected for months now.  I'm only about 40% through the game. I miss its dark moodyness and Baofu's smooth look.

Nov 2 2001 - Pool of RadianceNews from the front lines...

When I stumbled across this game I had just finished up the Baldur's Gate saga weeks before.  I was in need of a fix!  The game looked interesting enough...and boasted the same platform as the Baldur's Gate games I so dearly loved at this point.  So I traded in my Baldur's Gate games (Icewind Dale as well) and purchased this game.  After installing the game and playing a few minutes I was most certainly intrigued.  It was different...that was to be expected.  However, as time wore on I realized that the game was far different from what I had grown used to when playing Baldur's Gate.  The tedium of waiting for each person to strike the enemy became very annoying.  I wanted the all out brawl that I was so used to spells flying, swords, axes and maces swinging!  At one point my party of five had to wait for an entire orog clan to get in to position before I could even move/cast a spell.  It wasn't that I felt the orogs had the advantage over me by being able to move before I could...it was just boring that EVERY round I had to wait for them to figure out where they wanted to go. The game is slow in that respect.  My other gripes: Mages take FOREVER to level up the dungeons are insane mazes of nothingness, uninteresting treasures, countless undead which becomes very boring.  Backtracking to so-called  points of interest only to find it was unnecessary - useless! And the music!! Ridiculous - almost childish like a 4 year messing with a MIDI player. And 80% percent of the time there  is no music playing!  I wish I'd been able to take part in the making of this game...for I surely would have added to the musical aspect!!  Music is a big factor in RPG's!  Bad music or infrequent use of music leaves the setting/characters bleak and sterile in my opinion.

I have spent much of the game underground in the Dwarven Dungeons.  SO BORING!  There was a moment of excitement when a ghost named Elena appeared...then proceeded to hauntingly trail after the party.  I would halt my party to look at my strategy guide and hear eerie footsteps grow closer then stop.  I soon began to notice the faint outline of a woman trailing my party.  It was damn eerie.  At first I thought I was hearing a glitch in the game!!  I'm still playing this game of course and waiting to see if the story makes up for the current lack of excitement. Until then... ^_^
